Schwarzer Confident Fabregas Can Fill Lampard Void

The Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has said that the club’s new signing Cesc Fabregas is perfectly capable of replacing a great player like Frank Lampard who has been released by the Blues this summer.

Fabregas has been bought by Chelsea from Barcelona at a transfer fee of 30 million Pounds. The fans are expecting him not to let the club miss the services of Lampard and Schwarzer has backed the Spaniard to live up to the expectations.

As far as Lampard is concerned, he is a Chelsea legend. He spent over a decade at Stamford Bridge making close to 650 appearances. He found the back of the net more than 200 times for the club.

So, there is no doubt that the hole created by his departure is huge and it would be a challenge for Fabregas to fill it.

Talking to the reporters yesterday about Lampard’s departure and Fabregas’ arrival, Schwarzer said, “When you lose a legendary player like Frank, it pushes you back. He had been here at Stamford Bridge since a very long period of time performing consistently. His exit is certainly a blow for us. But, we are very lucky to have got another class act in the form of Cesc.”

“Cesc is not behind anyone in the world in terms of quality. He is a game changing midfielder and he surely can fill in Frank’s shoes.”

Fabregas has played in the English league in the past as well. His senior career had, in fact, begun in England only. He had been a Gunner for 8 years before making a move to his Motherland in the summer of 2011.

At Barcelona, Fabregas played close to 100 La Liga matches and scored 28 goals.
