David Luiz so sad for injured Chelsea trio ahead of Europa League final

Brazil international David Luiz has said that he is so sad for the trio of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Antonio Rudiger, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who have suffered long-term injuries during the final weeks of the campaign. The trio have played an influential role in the club’s route to the Europa League final but won’t play any part in Baku against Arsenal.

Speaking to Evening Standard, Luiz admitted disappointment over the absence of the trio and he is hopeful that the Blues can take the same as a motivation to win the Europa League title, he said: “I'm so sad for Callum and Ruben because they are in the best moments of their careers and they have injuries.

“I'm sad also for 'Toni Rudiger because he's injured and I know how much he wants to play a final, but it's a different moment of his career than the other two so I just wish for the three of them to be good soon - we need them. I am comfortable and happy with my team because my team has qualities enough to be there and try and win the final.”

Chelsea have not had the best of returns against Arsenal over the past two years but they have the quality within their ranks to outclass the Gunners. Nonetheless, they need to show a strong defensive resolve in Baku, considering their opposition possess the qualities of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, who have been in fine form during the backend of the competition.

The west London club are currently not permitted to make any signings during the next two transfer windows and barring a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, they are likely to stick with most members of the current squad next term. The Blues have recently rewarded both Luiz and Olivier Giroud with new contracts amid the transfer embargo sanctioned by FIFA.
