N’Golo Kante reacts positively after Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool

French midfielder N’Golo Kante has acknowledged that Chelsea have not made a bright start to the season but they can change their fortunes during the forthcoming games. The 28-year-old made his injury comeback during the recent 2-1 league defeat to Liverpool and he put up a strong performance which included a sublime solo goal in the second half.

Speaking after that game, Kante admitted that the Blues have not made the best of beginnings to the season and there is plenty of work to be done in the near future, he told Chelsea TV: “It is not a great start, we have work to do. We are not where we want to be but we can fight and change this in the next games.”
When asked about his comeback, the Frenchman was pleased to help the team but accepted that the result was disappointing, he continued: “It was good to come back. I was happy to come back in front of our fans and for this big game. I am disappointed by the result but I am happy to be back to help the team to try to win. We tried our best during the game and we are disappointed by the result.”

Kante had been sidelined for around a month with an ankle problem and it was anticipated that he may struggle to make the matchday squad for the weekend game after just returning to training. However, the Frenchman not only made the squad for the encounter but he also managed to play through the entire 90 minutes without suffering any setback.

Still, Lampard may have to be wary of the Frenchman’s fitness after the recent injury concern and the midfielder could be one of the many players rested for the forthcoming League Cup third round tie against Grimsby Town. Lampard should offer opportunities to a number of young graduates as they should be able to cope with the challenge presented by the League Two outfit.
